Kia also took home the Best Value Car category with the sharply-priced and affordable to own Kia Cerato S. It ticks the basic equipment and safety features box, and is the most affordable to buy, insure, refuel and service. Kia’s seven-year warranty adds peace of mind, were a number of back-to-back winners this year. The Skoda Kamiq backed up its 2021 win in the Best Small SUV category, as did the Volvo XC40 in the Best Small Luxury SUV class. Isuzu’s tough and reliable D-Max won the Best Dual Cab Ute award for a second time, but this year it shares the award with the Mazda BT-50. Both vehicles were co-developed by Isuzu and Mazda, but pricing increases this year to the D-Max made it impossible for judges to split the two. Other first time winners include the Hyundai Ioniq 5 which beat the Mazda MX-30, Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40 EV to win Best EV under $100K. At the other end of the EV spectrum, the electrifying Porsche Taycan volted the field and charged to the fore, zapping the Audi e-tron, BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQC. Surely that sentence has to win the award for the most bad electric puns in a single phrase! Hyundai also took home the Best Hot Hatch award with the Hyundai i30 N DCT, which saw off a spirited challenge from its smaller brother, the i20 N and the properly rapid and refined Volkswagen Golf GTI. The Volkswagen Golf did, however, take home the gold medal as Best Small Car, beating the strong-selling Toyota Corolla and Hyundai i30 hatchbacks with its high-tech interior and polished driving dynamics. The Skoda Octavia used its space, value and versatility to good advantage to earn the judges’ favour in a hard-fought battle with the Toyota Camry Hybrid and classy Hyundai the toughest win of Drive Car of the Year went to the Land Rover Defender. This reimagined icon of the off-road scene beat the bookies’ favourite Toyota LandCruiser 300 and incumbent Nissan Patrol not just with its on-road chops but its incredible off-road prowess, proving it is the master of two very different Rover's British luxury stablemate Jaguar won a hotly contested Medium Luxury SUV category with the revitalised F-Pace, overcoming an updated Porsche Macan, an all-new Genesis GV70, and more improved Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60. Bien que les changements soit rares, elles sont sujettes à modifications et seront mises à jour en conséquence. Le 23 mars dernier se tenait, sur l’autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry, la deuxième édition de l’événement “God Save the Car and the Motorcycle” dédié aux véhicules anglais. Rassemblant environ 500 autos et motos issues de la production britannique et, attirant près de 3 000 visiteurs, le succès fut au rendez-vous. Les Mini avaient, bien entendu, répondu massivement à l’appel afin de fêter dignement les 60 ans de la mythique citadine au palmarès sportif sans pareil. Dès le matin, le ton fut donné. En effet, l’arrivée des participants se fit sous une météo des plus britanniques, composée de brouillard dense et de froid perçant. La première session de roulage sur le mythique circuit de Linas-Montlhéry a même été retardée pour cause de visibilité insuffisante. Toutefois, les choses revinrent vite dans l’ordre et le soleil fit progressivement son apparition, avant de s’installer durablement sur l’anneau pour offrir une belle lumière à la journée “God Save The Car and The Motorcycle”. Les différents plateaux de roulage se sont succédés tout au long de la journée, entrecoupés par deux grandes parades rassemblant la quasi-totalité des véhicules présents. Nous avons ainsi pu voir évoluer de nombreuses Mini dont certaines étaient bluffantes d’efficacité, mais aussi une magnifique Riley Racing 6 vert pâle de 1935, un duo d’Ashley Sprite et Midget, une rarissime 12 exemplaires et minuscule Heron Europa, une mythique Jaguar Type D une réplique ou encore les classiques mais toujours superbes Triumph, MG et Jaguar. Côté paddocks, la fête était assurée par le groupe de rock Whatslap et les nombreuses Mini présentant toutes les couleurs, les versions et les modifications possibles, un véritable catalogue vivant pour amateur éclairé. Un improbable mais sublime attelage constitué d’une sublime X120 Roadster noire, tractant une non moins superbe moto Norton, constituait également une attraction incontournable, à proximité d’une Jaguar Type C en très bel état d’origine. Seule petite ombre au tableau, un faible nombre de stands de shopping » offert aux amateurs, mais cela ne viendra aucunement gâcher la fête. Convivial et accessible, l’événement “God Save The Car and The Motorcycle” est en passe de devenir une référence auprès des amateurs d’anglaises. A noter, les amateurs d’autres nationalités automobiles françaises, italiennes, allemandes et américaines ne sont pas délaissés pour autant ; un tour sur le calendrier des événements de l’UTAC-CERAM vous permettra de constater qu’un événement similaire est prévu pour chacun de ces pays.
